Oops, I Didn't Again

Well, crap. It's Wednesday, and I missed another workout. My back has been hurting me, but let's just be honest. I was too lazy and too cold to get out of bed this morning and get the workout done. By the time I got into my day, I realized I had to get out and finish Christmas shopping, or I might not get it done this week. It was simply too late to work out and get everything else done.

In addition to shopping, I wrote an article today based on yesterday's interview with the U of MD nutritionist, Jane. I am going to submit it to "Oxygen" magazine, my favorite fitness magazine, and see if they'll publish it.

So I missed today, and I felt really bad and kind of humiliated having to write about it, but Stephen encouraged me that "That's real!" and would be helpful to admit to other people who also struggle with staying on plan. I am realizing I'm a morning workout person; if I don't get it done first thing, chances are it won't happen. Working out after dinner should be against the law, as far as I'm concerned.

I ate okay today, but not enough calories. I am beginning to seriously consider cycling my calories, so I have high, low, and medium calorie days. I believe that's a good way to trick your body into a high metabolism, while trying to lose weight. It makes a lot of sense to me, especially after writing this article. If I get rejected, I may just post it here.

May I just take a moment to say -- Go Danny! I'm so very glad you won "Biggest Loser" last night!! That made me very happy. "Top Chef" finale is tonight, which is almost as fun.

Speaking of favorite shows, one point Jane made yesterday that made a huge impression on me was, she has clients coming in complaining about losing six pounds in a month, because they're used to "Biggest Loser" double-digit weekly weight loss. In reality, one to two pounds a week weight loss is considered healthy and, more importantly, sustainable. It's the keeping it off part that bites you, doesn't it?

If you've lost weight and kept it off successfully, please post and tell the rest of us how you lost it and how you continue to keep it off. That's the rub. I'll never forget seeing Eric, one of the Biggest Loser winners, after he had gained all of the weight back. How heartbreaking to go through such an amazing experience and put all of that time and effort and heart into it, only to end up where you started. I haven't gone back to a size 16, but I'm not kidding myself: if I don't rein this in now, I will go back to exactly where I started size-wise. It's the hardest part.

Okay, I'm beat, and I have a kid waiting for me to put her to bed. Here's my eating journal for today, a little short of the 1,750 mark, but I'm going to make up for it by eating about 2,000 calories tomorrow. Hooray for high calorie days!
